Muhaiminul Islam currently works at the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology. Muhaiminul Islam is an experienced faculty member specializing in geoinformatics, urban planning, environmental studies, and disaster management. With six years of expertise, he excels in spatial analysis, leveraging geospatial technologies and GIS applications.

As Project Director, Muhaiminul led impactful initiatives, including 'Public Perceptions on Urban Open Space and City Livability in Barishal, Bangladesh' and 'Integrated Water Resource Management for Drought-Affected Regions in Bangladesh' in fiscal year 2020-2021. He actively contributes as an Associate Member of the Bangladesh Institute of Planners (BIP) and has served as Assistant Provost at Shahid Lt. Selim Hall, RUET, since December 2021.

His dedication lies in integrating geoinformatics into urban development, environmental conservation, and disaster management, reflecting a commitment to sustainable practices." His current project is "Urban Fire Disaster Preparedness and Safety Practices in Commercial Buildings of Rajshahi City Corporation."

Research Assistant Positions Available  (Urban Fire Hazard Lab) 

Are you passionate about urban safety, disaster risk reduction, and field-based research? Join the Urban Fire Hazard Lab as a Research Assistant and be part of a meaningful study aimed at evaluating fire disaster preparedness and safety measures in commercial establishments across Rajshahi City Corporation.

I am currently seeking 1–2 motivated undergraduate students with an interest in urban planning, disaster management, or geospatial analysis.

What You’ll Do:

  1. Conduct field surveys and collect data from commercial buildings.
  2. Assist in data entry, mapping, and spatial analysis (preferably using GIS).
  3. Support report writing and literature review.

Work closely with the lab advisor and other team members in shaping practical recommendations for fire safety improvement.

Eligibility:

  1. Strong interest in urban planning, public safety, or geospatial studies.
  2. Basic knowledge of survey tools and GIS preferred (training will be provided).
  3. Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to work both independently and in a team.

Duration: Flexible, based on project needs
Stipend: May be available based on performance and involvement

Founding Member and Advisor

As the Advisor of the RUET GIS Club, I have the privilege of guiding a vibrant community of undergraduate students passionate about Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The club serves as a dynamic platform where students explore the power of geospatial technology to address real-world issues through hands-on learning, collaboration, and innovation. Under my mentorship, the club organizes workshops, seminars, and project-based initiatives that cultivate technical skills, critical thinking, and social impact. I am committed to nurturing the next generation of GIS leaders who are driven to shape smarter, more sustainable communities.
