Professor
Dr. Md. Mostafizur Rahman is a Professor in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET), Bangladesh. He earned his Ph.D. in Earth Science (Photogrammetry and Geoinformatics) from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Hungary, in 2022, following an M.URP (2015) and B.URP (2008) from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) . With over 15 years of academic and professional experience, Dr. Rahman specialises in geospatial technologies, climate-resilient urban planning, and environmental risk assessment. At RUET, he has taught various courses including GIS, Remote Sensing, Environmental Planning, Disaster Management, and Cities, Regions and Climate Change at undergraduate and graduate levels, and has supervised numerous student theses.
In addition to his academic duties, Dr. Rahman has led and contributed to several nationally and internationally funded projects. These include work as Urban Environmental Management Expert for GIZ’s “Livable and Inclusive Cities for All” project, GIS and RS Specialist for a World Bank-funded low-carbon and climate-resilience project, and Team Leader for FAO’s “Green City Initiative” in Rajshahi. He also served with organisations such as ADB, IWM, and AQUA Consultant in roles focusing on climate risk mapping, urban environmental planning, and geospatial modelling. His collaborations span partnerships with GIZ, the World Bank, FAO, ADB, and multiple government bodies in Bangladesh.
Dr. Rahman is a member of the Bangladesh Society of Geoinformatics (BSGI) and the Bangladesh Institute of Planners (BIP). His research focuses on satellite-based environmental monitoring, land use planning, climate vulnerability assessments, and participatory urban development. He is committed to advancing the application of GIS and remote sensing in solving real-world urban challenges and promoting inclusive, data-driven climate adaptation strategies.
